RIA's Certified Restoration Technician (CRT) course is a unique, comprehensive, entry-level training course for those new to, or entering, the restoration field and is one of the required pre-requisite courses for RIA's advanced certification, the Certified Restorer (CR). Course instruction, held at the Unsmoke Training Facility in McKees Rock, PA, will cover fire, water and smoke damage basic skills. Attendees will learn new skills and gain new confidence in: water restoration & structural drying, guaranteeing smoke odor removal, structure cleaning, surface preparation and finishing, duct cleaning to contents cleaning including wood furniture, documents, books, etc. Approximately half of the four-day course is geared toward "hands-on" training. Course Instructors Gary Funari, WLS and Bill Weigand, WLS are experienced educators with years of hands-on experience in disaster restoration and have presented numerous water damage, odor, smoke and fire restoration training programs and schools throughout the US and internationally. They have participated in development of disaster restoration training programs for restorers, insurance agents and claims adjusters.
A technician-certificate based test will be administered at the end of the course which evaluates the student's comprehension of course learning objectives. Those who pass the course test with an 80% or better will receive an RIA certificate recognizing their learning accomplishment as a Certified Restoration Technician (CRT).
