I am installing hardwood floors in a customer's house and in the past I have been told to always run the boards perpendicular to the flooring joists. The customer is asking me to run them parallel to the joists so that it runs the length of the room. Can I get away with this?

RE: direction if isntallation
I have istalled in whatever direction the homeowner prefers if the substrate is flat, strong and will support the method of installation required.
