Bring Your Kids to Work!

I was wondering if other flooring installers ever bring their kids on the job. I have two boys, 11 and 16 years old, both of whom have enjoyed helping me from time to time. I figure the more they learn about the construction industry, the better off they are. They were able to learn about tile flooring as well as some of the other trades going on around us.

I've brought my oldest son (16) to a couple of my jobs before, but usually only when I know the client personally and I've gotten their permission. I think it's good for them to learn as much about construction as they can whether they end up in the industry or not. It's good skills for later on in life.

Being from a 4th generation flooring family many of us grew up on a jobsite. It seems that with insurance concerns and OSHA regulations it is becoming harder to have unauthorized people on the job but I believe that most of the time a 16 yr old is quite acceptable
