Hard flooring on split staircase

I live in a two story house and currently have 8 year old carpet on my split staircase which is looking pretty worn. I want to replace it with somthing like laminate, hardwood, or engineered wood. I currently have laminate upstairs and downstairs. What are my options for hard flooring on the stairs and how much should I expect to pay for labor and materials?

The price can vary buy area.  You can buy prefabricated pieces of wood that cover the entire step or you can fabricate them from your existing flooring and a stair nose.

I would do a search on here for retailers and installers in your area and then call around to get some estimates.

Thanks very much. I didn't realize they made wood that covers the entire step. I will use FAF's pro search to find a local installer. Thanks again!
